Sweeter than an angel

Heaven Is An Angel Short

Gabriel came to call the roll
(They do this just for fun--
No one ever plays hookey there
Not a single one!)
So imagine his shock and disbelief
One late April morn
When all the angels--minus one--
Showed up to Gabriel's horn
Gabriel didn't know what to do
For in all the ages past
No heavenly host got lost or sick
He must find this angel fast!
There was only one place to go
So he approached the throne of God
Struck by both His grace and glory
Many people there had trod
People cast on Him their burdens
And they sang His wondrous praise
The sweet communion with believers
Continues for all days
But Gabriel had a first for Him
"Dear Lord, an angel's gone!'
He bowed before our awesome God
This Saturday at dawn
God looked down at Gabriel
With a twinkle in his eye
And in his gentle voice,
Gave him this reply:
My friend, do not worry,
No angel's gone astray
The one you thought was missing,
I have sent away
She'll return, that's for certain,
Though she will be gone awhile
I know you'll miss her joyful spirit,
her laughter and her smile
But that is why I chose her
To journey from above
Down to earth and to a family
With no child but lots of love
She will be their blessing
All her earthly days
And she'll smile at them with blue eyes
That reveal her heavenly gaze
From time to time, they'll wonder
Could this a real angel be?
But it will be hard to prove that
For all humans have bits of me
So continue with your roll call
The host of heaven to sort
But remember that for just a while
We'll be an angel short.

So true and beautiful, but many Mothers feel that way - I know I did with my two angels ---

until they became teenagers,
